MSI Radeon R9 390X Gaming 8GB Overclocking Results

Using MSI's Afterburner overclocking software allowed us to push the R9 390X Gaming 8G only a modest amount further; final stable clock speeds were 1,155MHz on the GPU core and 1,700MHz (6,800MHz effective) on the memory, meaning that's up from 1,100MHz and 1,525MHz, respectively.

It must be considered that the R9 390X is based on a speed-bumped and refined R9 290X and, as a result, overclocking results are going to be similar. The factory clock speeds may be faster but overclocking on most R9 290X and R9 390X GPUs is still limited by the capability of the silicon which is within the 1,100 to 1,175MHz region... the result delivered by MSI's R9 390X Gaming 8G is to be expected.
